High-Purity Tungsten Powder Solutions
Tungsten powder is a strategic metal powder raw material used in the production of processed tungsten materials, tungsten alloys, cemented carbide, heavy alloys, radiation shielding solutions, and advanced industrial manufacturing processes.
What Is Tungsten Powder?
Tungsten powder is the powdered form of metallic tungsten. It is used as a key raw material in industrial applications requiring high density, a high melting point, superior hardness, and strong mechanical properties. It is classified into different grades according to particle size, morphology, and production process.
Strategic Raw Material
It is a key input in the production of processed tungsten products, tungsten alloys, tungsten carbide, and high-performance metal components.
High Heat Resistance
With a melting point of approximately 3400°C, it provides a critical advantage in applications requiring extreme temperature resistance.
High Density
It is preferred for heavy alloys, counterweights, radiation shielding, and specialized industrial components.
Tungsten Powder Grades for Different Applications
Particle size, flowability, dopant composition, and production method directly determine the application area of tungsten powder.
General-Purpose Tungsten Powder
Used in the production of cemented carbide, ferrotungsten, tungsten wire, tungsten rods, plates, and specialty alloys.
- Cemented carbide production
- Powder metallurgy components
- Tungsten-copper / tungsten-silver alloys

Crystalline Tungsten Powder
A specialized tungsten powder with a coarser particle structure and good flowability. It stands out in wear-resistance and coating applications.
- 35–40 μm FFAQ particle size
- Scott density 7.3–8.9 g/cm³
- Low oxygen content
- Oil drilling tool matrix applications
Spherical Tungsten Powder
Provides a suitable morphology for advanced manufacturing processes requiring high flowability and uniform distribution.
- Good flowability
- Uniform particle distribution
- Additive manufacturing potential
- High-performance metal component production
Doped Tungsten Powder
Tungsten matrix properties are optimized through additives such as potassium, aluminum, and silicon.
- Stable average particle size of 2–5 μm
- Anti-sagging tungsten wire production

Tungsten Powder Production by Hydrogen Reduction
Hydrogen reduction is the most widely used industrial method for tungsten powder production. This process provides a critical advantage in controlling particle size and morphology.
WO₃ Preparation
Tungsten trioxide is prepared as the starting raw material and subjected to a controlled reduction process.
First Reduction
At 500–700°C, tungsten trioxide is reduced to tungsten dioxide.
Second Reduction
At 700–900°C, tungsten dioxide is converted into tungsten powder in a hydrogen atmosphere.
Particle Size Control
Particle size is optimized through processes such as blue tungsten treatment, ball milling, washing, and drying.
Where Is Tungsten Powder Used?
Tungsten powder plays a critical role in many industrial manufacturing fields that require high density, a high melting point, hardness, and wear resistance.
